Update March 9, 2007
What a glorious day!!! The sun is shining and it finally feels like March. Happy spring
break to all my teacher friends. It has been a great week. On Monday, Dr. Fakih
(Roswell Park) was as pleasantly surprised as I was, when we saw the dramatic
decrease in my CEA level from Jan.22, 2007. In six weeks, it has dropped more than
half!! He has never seen this happen with a patient.
The following day, Dr. Major was just as pleasantly surprised. I had my CT scan that
morning and the preliminary results show shrinkage in the liver. I am not sure what is
happening with the lung mets. I will get the full report on Mar. 20th. Ironically, my
erbitux re-approval arrived that day even before the ct results!!! So I am good to go
for another 8 sessions.
On top of all this good news, I have learned that I am eligible for the sir spheres
procedure. Where and when are to be determined. For now, I am going to enjoy the
good effects of erbitux. I will gauge the decision based on my next cea count (beg, of
April).
Since I can relax about treatments, I have been able to focus on advocacy. Today I
was at Cogeco for a taped t.v. interview which will be aired in late April. I was able to
discuss my concerns with cancer care and the whole issue of erbitux. Next week I will
be at U of T doing the same thing but live in a panel discussion format. As well, I will
be able to meet Andre Marin, the ombudsman, if a snowstorm doesn’t happen.
Please check out the golf tournament information as our next fundraising event on
April 28th.
Thanks for checking in,
