Update April 7, 2007
It’s easter and the poor little easter bunnys are going to work in the snow to do their
deliveries this weekend!!!
I can’t believe the week I had. I was supposed to be taking a break from chemo,
resting, laying low in anticipation of having a short holiday next week. However, things
never go as planned. When I saw Dr. Major on Tuesday, I mentioned some of the chest
pain I had been experiencing. This concerned him and off I went for a lung x-ray, ct
angio of the chest and an ecg. All tests came back clear…. He thinks it may be an
esophageal spasm …. It feels like a heart attack without the shortness of breath. I am
going to monitor it. I have had two attacks so far. Anyhow, I tried to get out of chemo
and Dr. Major compromised on just one drug instead of the two. So I had the cpt 11
and skipped the 5fu 46 hour bottle.
The following day I went for an abi test to ensure I don’t have blood clots in my legs
or feet as I continuously have a toe infection. I will get those results in a couple of
weeks but I could hear pulses all along the checkpoints so I am not too worried about
that.
I have been tired a lot lately and my bloodwork from Tuesday showed a lowered
hemoglobin. I decided to go for a blood transfusion because I have felt better from
that in the past. While getting the transfusion, a familiar (from the last week) pain
developed in my ribcage by the liver. At this point, I started to get really worried. I
think the fatigue of treatment and all the running around for tests and a transfusion
caught up to me. When I got home, I did some emailing with Dr. Fakih, oncologist at
Roswell Park, to get the ball rolling for the sirspheres. In the meantime, my initial OHIP
out of country coverage app was returned as being incomplete. So did some
research, sent a bunch of materials to Dr. Major and proceeded with appointments at
Roswell Park in the hope I am approved. I have decided to go with Roswell Park
because of the convenience as opposed to traveling to North Carolina.
So yesterday, I went for a ct angio of the liver. If that went well, I will have a liver
arteriogram the week of the 16th with the possibility of the spheres the week of the
23rd.
Now I am supposed to be focusing on taking a break from all of this and enjoying a
holiday. I am going to work hard on staying in the moment. There isn’t a thing more I
can do except eat and sleep well.
Happy Easter
