Update April 26, 2006
Good morning!! It looks like a great day outside. I have just had two really busy days
but promising….
On Monday I went for my third treatment of Erbitux at Roswell Park in Buffalo. It was
a long day but good. I got to see the Stanley Cup on display which was a neat
surprise! While there, my friend noticed a screen which advertises upcoming
lectures. On April 27th there is going to be a lecture there regarding protein kinase
and colon cancer. In my research, I have come across protein kinase inhibitors in
clinical trials. I plan on attending tomorrow and look forward to the opportunity of
learning more and making some connections.
Yesterday, I had Avastin at the clinic in West Seneca. I am going to be doing Avastin
every three weeks now instead of two weeks. Dr. Garbes had attended an Avastin
conference and felt based on the research this was a good way to go for me. In the
afternoon, I was at Princess Margaret Hospital to meet Dr. Dawson. She is running a
trial on targeted liver radiation therapy. I believe I qualify (she still needs to see my
latest CT Scan) and then I need to figure out the best timing for this experience. It is
a two month process where I can’t be on chemotherapy. I have not taken a break for
that long and I need to consult with my three oncologists to see what is best.
After my appointment, I was able to meet with Anne Marie Sweeney who is a fourth
year journalism student at Ryserson. She is writing her last paper for investigative
journalism and is tackling the issue of accessing cancer drugs in Ontario. We had a
good meeting and interview. Ironicially, her husband also has stage four colon cancer.
It is always good to meet with others, share information and support one another.
Tomorrow there is a pre hearing trial for my appeal. My lawyer is confident that
reimbursement for my U.S. expenses will occur. I hope for more justice….
So today I need to get my golf clubs and make my way to the driving range so I am
ready for Saturday. It looks like the weather will hold and we almost have a full house.
Have a great day
