Update July 27, 2006
Hello everyone!! Well it has been another full and challenging week. It started out
with Erbitux treatment on Monday at Roswell Park. An exceptionally long day as I had a
doctor’s visit before treatment. The good news I am approved until mid-Sept. for
Erbitux as long as it is still working. I spoke to Dr. Fakih about their clinical trials and
there are two of interest. Anyhow, I also had a videographer taping me that day for a
video for Great West Life insurance company. Institutions are all about rules and they
gave us a hard time for filming even though I had made inquiries the week before.
The following day was my long day at the Juravinski Centre in Hamilton. Dr. Major is
away until Aug. 14th so the substitute is Dr. Russell who is amazing. Anyway, all was
good for treatment but while getting it I found out my cea level which has risen quite
significantly since last month. It has been fluctuating for the past 6 months but this
trend seems to be only increasing. I did remember that I have toe infections which
affects the cea level. However, typical me I spent most of the night researching
clinical trials on the net, had an anxiety attack about changing drugs and this whole
mess of colon cancer, and finally calmed down by morning. This roller coaster is still a
roller coaster.
So I have been able to make phone calls, emails to various friends and doctors and
gathering information in case of a change in drugs. It does get easier researching all of
this. The other piece of good news is that I have been linked with an organization
called Best Doctors who take all your medical files and synthesize the information and
consult with doctors in Boston to come up with the best treatment options. I have
been hoping for this kind of assistance for awhile.
So the new plan of action is to continue to gather information, keep myself busy, try
to enjoy the sunshine and relax this weekend and see what the Ct scan on Monday
shows before getting myself too worked up.
Thanks for tuning in and please mark your calendars for the volleyball tourney on Aug.
20th if you want to play or help out (let me know) and Summer Lovin’ Giddy up y’all on
Aug. 25th at Coppola’s.
Details are on the upcoming events link.
