Update Sept. 26, 2006

Hello everyone!!

It has been a busy but good week since my last update.  I was able to work out last
week and had lots of energy to do some important work with the advocacy group,
socialize and travel.

The Colon Cancer Resource and Action Network has a subcommittee called the
Advocacy Steering Committee. We had our first conference call this evening. We are
going to be generating a response to Cancer Care Ontario’s latest proposal of user
fees. Essentially, CCO wants cancer patients to pay for unfunded cancer drugs and
their associated infusion fees. This is completely unacceptable. Why do we health
care system that can’t figure out how to give cancer patients standard of care
medicine? I am really hoping you are able to support us in this challenge with an action
of writing to your mp, mpp and signing a petition. We should have this information by
next Tuesday and then will ask you to help and spread this pertinent information.

I was really fortunate to get some great media coverage from the National Post and St.
Catharines Standard over the last week.  Of course I have not heard anything from the
OHIP tribunal but feel supported and comforted by people’s response to the
treatment I have received from OHIP.

We had a great fundraiser on Sunday. It was Gary Bellhouse’s 6th annual Century Ride
from his home in Wainfleet. Susan and Gary hosted this event and we had 37 riders
who completed 50 mile and 100 mile routes. A $20 donation was made by participants
and we raised $860. Thankfully, the weather held out and it didn’t rain. The wind was
a challenge but the riders persevered.  Thanks again to the L3 committee and
participants for directly investing in my life with their money and support.

We have another fundraiser in the works… we are looking to do a Stamp A Stack of
Christmas cards in October. Final details are being worked out and it should be
confirmed by the end of this week.

As for treatment and health… I have been feeling really well. I am excited about the
surgery options and waiting on consultations. I also have met with a clinical trials
doctor at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Always gathering information….the CT
scan for this Friday is a focus and will try to wait patiently for those results….

In the meantime, I remain busy with advocacy and being a walking and talking
advertisement for pharmaceuticals and getting the necessary cancer drugs. I am
looking forward to some down time this weekend….

Thanks for checking in….
