Hello! A week later I am starting to feel better. I have recovered from the let down of
surgery…. Made a few decisions and trying to feel positive about the next step.
I have decided to go on a phase 1 clinical trial at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH). I
go for the work up on Nov. 20th and start on Dec. 4th. It is a trial consisting of two
types of drugs- one is xeloda which is the pill form of 5 fu and the other is
experimental called SAHA. This is a gene targeted therapy. Because both drugs are in
pill form I am now able to have less appointments and less wait time in hospitals. I am
glad for that change.
In the meantime, I am still exploring some options in the U.S. where I can get some
other radiation types of therapy. Nothing is planned at the moment – still researching.
I am so grateful to the contacts I have to assist with me information and research. Due
to the newness of these drugs there are no definitive steps to follow in terms of
which one is better, which one is going to work, etc.
This is confusing and frustrating for me at times.
So while I am gearing up for this trial, I hope to spend more time at the gym and doing
some things I don’t normally get to enjoy.
