Update Dec. 4, 2006

The first true snowfall this evening for St. Catharines. It is pretty and obviously I am
not three months into the fluffy stuff!!!!

It has been a bender of a week. I went for a biopsy last Wed. and  wow was I ever
naïve.  I had to fast from midnight onwards. My appointment was for 10 a.m. and I wasn’
t seen until 12:30 p.m. – no water, no food = no happy.  Then I wasn’t given enough
pain meds and when the needle went through my diaphragm I felt some serious
referred pain.  Let’s just say my clinical trials doctor got a comment card today. I laid
down some realistic expectations and boundaries because I have yet another one next
week.
The biopsy put a kink in my life last week and I rebounded by having a relaxing
weekend filled with lounging around.

Today, I was at PMH to start my clinical trial.  I have taken my first course of pills and
feel okay so far.  Just some digestive noises which I am very familiar with by now.  I
have two more blood test visits this week and one next week.

I am feeling out of balance with all of the changes, let downs and challenges of late.  I
am making a concentrated effort to slow down, and do more fun things (less cancer
related activities) between now and Christmas.  To be honest, the Christmas spirit is
not happening and I hope I find it in the next couple of weeks.

Unless any major developments occur, I may not be writing weekly updates until after
Christmas.  I really appreciate everyone’s words of comfort and support. I know people
want to help me and are often left feeling helpless. I guess in this season of believing, I
ask for the gift in believing in the miracle of medicine.

Take care,
